Bob and I were eliminated after try-outs for the first Little League team from Wm. Hatch grade school. There were several of us that did not make the team. Bob's father took all of us scrubs who were "not good enough to make the team", found us a sponsor (Breit & Johnson Sporting Goods), coached us, and we won the league that year.
Bob was a good athlete and one great guy.
I had heard Bob had passed away recently and was able to contact his sister Ruthy who now lives in California. She had the following to say.
"Bob passed away two years ago on his dad's birthday, June 19th. He was struck by lightning while working out in his garden in Texas. There was no rain in the area. It was called heat lightning and came from far away. He was killed instantly".
"Bob had three children and four granchildren. He was a professor at Sam Houston University and was the Athletic Director. He was active in his church, community and a neat man".
