Miles was one of the sweetest guys in our class at Horace Mann. We all thought he was so cute (and he was), but the best thing about him was that he was kind to everyone.

Really glad to hear those kind remarks about Miles ... "Bud" Irmis. He was my cousin and we were born on the same day! Miles was a talented musician as well. Although he started on the piano, his true love was the clarinet that he began playing as a Freshman. It was his love of Benny Goodman that got him interested and I heard him play Goodman's solos note for note! Amazing ... As a senior he rose to second chair clarinet in the band.

I remember Miles from our days in the concert band clarinet section. He was a great guy and a lot of fun in a quiet and subdued way. He, John Nalbach, Gary Smith and I were The Clarinet Quartet. I think one of the band teachers organized us. We played mostly to women's club church groups and retirement centers and had fun doing it. I was saddened to hear he had passed away.

I remember a lot of practice before all of those clarinet presentations. We had a lot of fun.

When I went to college, I saw the band and decided that I didn't want to play clarinet anymore. My parents sold that LaBlanc for a song. I have often wished I'd kept it. My wife is a music major and has taught in private schools for many years. Of course, her instrument is the clarinet!!
