Paul Kiesgen

It is with sadness that I share the news with you of the death of Paul Kiesgen this morning at his home in Bloomington. Paul joined the voice faculty at IU in 1997 as Professor of Voice, and previously held positions at Ohio State University, Wichita State University, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Oklahoma City University and Northern Arizona University.
Paul performed in operas and concerts in North America, Europe, Israel and China, and taught master classes and guest lectured throughout the United States, as well as in Italy, Norway and China. He made regular visits to the Royal Academy of Music and The Guildhall School in London to present lectures and master classes.
Paul was a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Chicago Singing Teachers Guild, serving for a time as national vice president of NATS and as president of both the Chicago and Northern Arizona chapters.
He was a frequent panelist for NATS and a regular guest teacher for Academia Internazionale delle Arti in Rome. Paul was on the faculty at the Brevard Music Center, Aria International Summer Academy, The Voice Foundation’s Care of the Professional Voice seminar, and the NATS Intern Program.
His articles on vocal technique have appeared in Journal of Singing , Choral Journal and Classical Singer Magazine. He also presented papers for the First International Conference on the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing in Groningen, Holland, and the 2006 national conference of National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Paul is survived by his wife Meredith. An announcement about any services will be forthcoming as details are made available.
