My favorite memory of Nancy was actually about her dog. Her parents finally gave in after years of begging and let Nancy get a huge Airedale. She loved that dog, but her mother was merely tolerant of his antics (and there were many). Imagine Mrs. Irvine's consternation when the dog swallowed 9 feet of ribbon and had to have very expensive emergency surgery.

Nancy Irvine and I were very close friends in school. We had another friend, Rosemary O'Laughlin with whom I have lost touch. The common denominator of our friendship was a love of dogs. The first posted memory of Nancy by Jeanne Gleason reminded me of that. I had a Dalmatian named Bing, Nancy's Airedale was named Ruff (I always remember his registerd name, "SkagMary Ruffian") and Rosemary (Rusty as we called her) had a Collie whose name I cannot remember. We decided to give ourselves a kennel name as if we had a kennel and called it "DalColAire" to represent the three breeds. On our many get togethers, we used to quiz ourselves on naming from memory all of the AKC (American Kennel Club) breeds. At that time there about 100. My dog was very difficult and was actually the springboard for my life long quest for understanding canine behavior and human relationships. It is one of the main reasons that part of my work today is as a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant. Nancy was a very fine person. I have many good memories of that time in our lives.
